Y. David Scharf, treasurer and member of the board of directors of the United States Tennis Association Foundation, the national charitable arm of USTA, is delighted to announce that the Foundation raised a record-breaking $3 million at its Opening Night Gala, topping last year’s $2 million. The annual gala is a philanthropic event that supports the tennis and educational endeavors of under-resourced youth around the United States.

The August 29 gala, co-chaired by sports broadcaster Bill Macatee and Tatiana Cancro of Jersey Mike’s and emceed by actor Anthony Anderson, was attended by celebrities and longtime supporters of the USTA Foundation, including David’s personal guests Mayor Eric Adams and Tracey Collins, Josephine Becker, Ron Berkowitz, Hugh and Deb Jackman, Pam Liebman, Francisco and Katia Lindor, Rebecca and John McCabe, Diego Osorio, Lindsey Vonn, Vera Wang, Sela Ward and Howard Sherman, Anna Wintour, and Tomas Zak.

“It was an amazing night, and we were thrilled to see so many people come together to support our mission of changing lives through tennis and education,” said Scharf. “I am so proud to be part of the USTA Foundation, which provides life-changing opportunities and support to thousands of underserved children.”

The USTA Opening Night Gala was covered in an August 31 Vogue article entitled “The USTA Foundation Hosted a Glamorous Evening of Tennis and Philanthropy,” in a New York Post Page 6 article entitled “USTA Foundation Gala Raises $1.3M Ahead of US Open,” and on the U.S. Open website.
