Morrison Cohen Featured in New York Law Journal for Strong 2025 Performance
Morrison Cohen was featured in New York Law Journal following a standout 2025, during which the firm achieved nearly 15% revenue growth to approximately $128 million and a 23% increase in revenue per lawyer to $1.2 million. Managing Partner Steven Cooperman told the publication that these results followed a series of strategic initiatives launched to increase profitability and incentivize strong performance in support of clients, resulting in 2025 profits per equity partner of $1.5 million.
Among these initiatives, the firm shifted its compensation model from a retrospective model to a prospective, points-based system and instituted business generation allocation principles that reward teamwork and collaboration in growing and supporting the firm’s business and supporting clients. The firm also started setting objective goals for attorney performance and provided support and advice to its attorneys to help them meet those goals. In addition, the firm incentivized succession planning and transition of business.
The firm’s revenue increase was driven in part by increased rates and an uptick in demand. Steve explained that even with rate increases, rates are still a 30% to 45% discount to Big Law. “All of our lawyers are out of the big shops, but we're looking to provide sophisticated legal service at a rate that is commensurate with the budgets of our clients and the deal sizes that we're doing,” Steve said.
Meanwhile, the firm’s collection realization rate held steady in 2025, demonstrating that the firm’s value proposition resonates with its clients. Each of the firm’s practices performed well throughout 2025, Steve reported, noting that the Digital Assets Practice and the newly launched Government Strategies & Controversies Practice, an outgrowth of the current political landscape, stood out in particular as strong growth areas.
