Jason Gottlieb Discusses Cryptocurrency Market on CTV “Your Morning” Segment
On June 20, 2022, Jason Gottlieb, partner in Morrison Cohen’s Business Litigation Department and chair of the White Collar and Regulatory Enforcement Group and Digital Assets Group, appeared on the CTV (Canadian Television Network) national program, “Your Morning,” where he discussed the recent crash of the cryptocurrency market and the nature of the lawsuits that are surging in the space.
In the interview segment, hosted by Anne-Marie Mediwake, Jason commented on the rise of litigation alleging fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, or breach of contract, and said, “We’re seeing all sorts of those suits both from private litigants as well as regulators.”
He added, “The government has been suing people for the last five years … claiming that a lot of these tokens are actually unregistered securities offerings.”
Ultimately, Jason looked at the crypto market with a long lens, saying, “What we’re really seeing, despite the crashes in the market, is a maturation of the space. In the last five years we’ve seen an immense amount of both capital and talent come into the space. Many of these companies have gotten large enough to have resources, and you know the saying, ‘more money, more problems.’ So with that maturation you have employment disputes, you have contract disputes, you have tax disputes. And all of this plays out in the courts.”
