Hon. David Saxe (Ret.) Publishes Bylined Article in New York Law Journal on Oral Advocacy

Hon. David Saxe (Ret.), partner in Morrison Cohen’s Alternative Dispute Resolution and Business Litigation Departments and a former associate justice in the New York State Appellate Division, First Department, published a byline with co-author James Catterson in New York Law Journal. The article, which is entitled “Oral Argument: Easy Questions, Hard Questions-Be Prepared,” was published in the journal’s Court of Appeals and Appellate Practice section.

In the article, the authors take a deep look into oral presentation, with attention focused on the perspective of inquiries coming from the panel. They discuss some of the more common questions practitioners can expect, and analyze the impact of the unexpected questions that can potentially disrupt the flow of an attorney’s argument.

The article also discusses what attorneys can do to better prepare for oral presentations, providing tips for attorneys. Saxe and Catterson, who is also a former associate justice of the Appellate Division, First Department, discuss their firsthand experience from the bench to bring a unique perspective on this topic.
