Brian Forman Joins Morrison Cohen

August 10, 2020 - Morrison Cohen is pleased to announce that Brian R. Forman has joined the Firm as a partner in the Corporate Department and its Private Investment Funds Practice, focusing on fund formation and other legal services for private equity fund and hedge fund managers, as well as providing regulatory advice to such managers and investors in alternative assets.

Prior to joining Morrison Cohen, Brian was a member of the Structuring Group at HedgeMark Advisors, LLC, where he was an integral part of building a managed account platform for investors in private equity funds and hedge funds exceeding $20 billion in assets, and the acquisition of HedgeMark by the Bank of New York Mellon.  Brian has represented a broad selection of private equity fund and hedge fund managers in the formation of their investment vehicles.  He has assisted and worked with such managers in the formation of funds across various jurisdictions in the U.S., Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, and Europe, and also represented investors acquiring interests in funds.  Brian also has significant advisory experience in regulatory compliance as well as other day-to-day matters relating to operations, accounting, and investor relations.

At the Firm, Brian intends to provide fund formation services to existing Morrison Cohen clients, as well as grow the fund formation practice and expand on the Firm's capabilities in assisting its investment manager clients with their legal needs.

“The addition of Brian to our firm is a testament to our firm's resilience during a time of market displacement,” said Chair and Co-Managing Partner Y. David Scharf.  “The continued growth of our partnership this year alone is just another example of our commitment to excellence for our clients.”

Chair and Co-Managing Partner Steven M. Cooperman added, “Brian's brand over the last eight years has been solely dedicated to his hands-on work in forming private equity funds and hedge funds for large institutional investors, and growing a start-up business to a successful enterprise.  His arrival is an exciting time for the firm as a whole, as the wealth of experience and expertise he brings will be a sure advantage for our clients.”
