Y. David Scharf Featured in Article on Retail Real Estate Market

August 1, 2018 – Morrison Cohen Partner Y. David Scharf was featured in the July 31, 2018 issue of Commercial Observer in the article “Morrison Cohen's Y. David Scharf on Why There's More Retail Trouble Ahead”.

David comments on the current state of the retail market predicting that things will get worse as we look for the balance between brick-and-mortar and e-commerce.  David sees an influx of different types of retail issues from both retailers and landlords, from unaffordable lease obligations to unprecedented vacancy rates, and larger-scale issues and restructuring that will involve lenders.

Despite trouble ahead, David is optimistic that there are still retail opportunities and retail owners who can still find financing as they are not heavily leveraged and are able to get the best tenants.  He also states in a video interview with the article that the market will correct itself and sees the New York City retail market remaining resilient.
