Morrison Cohen’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee Hosted Virtual Discussion with Dr. Brenna Wynn Greer
In honor of Black History Month, Morrison Cohen’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee was proud to host a fascinating and insightful discussion with Dr. Brenna Wynn Greer, historian of race, gender, and culture in the United States and associate professor of history at Wellesley College. In the February 28 presentation, entitled “The Perils of ‘Symbolic Blackness,’” Dr. Greer examined the motivations behind and dangers of approaching Black history through Black figures who have been reduced to symbolic, and therefore simplistic, representations of Black people and history, and included a look at the history of Rosa Parks as both a symbolic figure and actual activist.
The presentation can be found here and will be available until March 28. Use passcode 2q^.4jr3. To learn more about Dr. Greer, visit her website.
