Morrison Cohen Wins Distressed M&A Deal Award for Acquisition of Pay-O-Matic by Western Union
Morrison Cohen was recognized by Global M&A Network with the Distressed M&A Deal Award for its role as lead counsel to The Pay-O-Matic Corporation in its acquisition by The Western Union Company. The award was presented at the 16th Annual Americas M&A Atlas Awards on July 23, 2026, at the Metropolitan Club of New York.
The transaction united two iconic names in New York’s financial services industry, with Western Union acquiring New York’s largest check-cashing company. The acquisition helped preserve hundreds of jobs while ensuring the continued delivery of critical financial services to communities throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Partners David J. Kozlowski, Jack Levy and Joseph T. Moldovan led the Morrison Cohen team on the transaction, Partners John Fulfree and Jeff Englander advised on labor and employment issues and Associate Dawn Sudama took a lead role in the deal.
