Law360 Highlights Launch of Morrison Cohen’s Independent Sponsors Practice
The launch of Morrison Cohen’s new Independent Sponsors Practice Group, designed to reflect the growing role independent sponsors play in middle-market and lower-middle-market private equity transactions, was covered in Law360, featuring an interview with Partner Randi Mason, co-chair of the firm’s Corporate Practice.
The new practice, a natural outgrowth of Morrison Cohen’s longstanding private equity platform, formalizes decades of experience advising independent sponsors. “Morrison Cohen has had a very active independent sponsor practice for decades,” Randi told Law360 Pulse. “Our middle market focus and commercial approach make us particularly well-suited to serve this market. Every once in a while, a skill set and a market opportunity become ripe at the same time, and we're at that moment.”
Randi also pointed to broader shifts across the private equity landscape driving increased demand for dedicated independent sponsor counsel. “Many mid-sized funds are disappearing or morphing into independent sponsors… We're very excited to see the market move in a direction where we have always had a strong presence and are particularly well suited to serve.”
The Independent Sponsors team is led by a multidisciplinary group of partners including Steven Cooperman, Brian Forman, Bryan Joggerst, David LaGalia, Randi Mason, Eric Moskowitz and Walter Rahmey, who work directly with clients throughout each transaction, from initial structuring through closing.
