Happy Lunar New Year

February 1 marked the first day of the Lunar New Year, which is widely celebrated throughout Asia and is considered to be one of the most important holidays in Asian culture. 2022 is the year of the Tiger, which is known as a symbol of strength, braveness, and exorcising evil. Images of tigers are commonly worn on hats or shoes throughout Asia and are regarded as symbols of good luck.

Lunar New Year is celebrated with a booming fireworks display, which symbolically wards off evil, ushers out the past year, and greets the arrival of a new year with a fresh start. Other common traditions to mark the New Year include cleansing the home, gathering with family and loved ones, gifting red envelopes containing money, and eating traditional foods like dumplings and fish.

We wish everyone in our Morrison Cohen community a Happy New Year, or as they say in parts of Asia, Gong hei fat choy (Cantonese) and Gong si fa cai! (Mandarin)!
