Y. David Scharf Supports USTA Foundation Fundraising with the US Open’s Opening Night Reception

September 6, 2019 - Morrison Cohen Vice Chairman Y. David Scharf, who is on the Board of Directors of the United States Tennis Association Foundation and is the co-chair of its Development Committee, participated in the Foundation’s 19th Annual Opening Night Gala fundraiser for the US Open on August 26, 2019. David hosted Vera Wang, Ryan and Emilia Serhant, Tiki and Tracy Barber, Maxwell and Stephanie Horton.

The evening was chaired by Chris Evert, Alec Baldwin and Katie Couric, and the 2019 Gala featured more than 100 donors and celebrities raising more than $1.3 million to continue its mission and support programming at more than 350 National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) community programs across the country. The Annual Opening Night Gala launches the US Open and is the major fundraiser for the USTA Foundation, the national charitable arm of the USTA and was celebrating the 50th anniversary of the NJTL Network.

The Opening Night Gala was featured on the US Open Website, the New York Post, and in the Style section of the New York Times.

The USTA Foundation supports programs nationwide that leverage tennis, education and life skills to prepare under-resourced youth for college and beyond. The Foundation benefits nearly a quarter of a million children every year through tennis, education, and health programs and college scholarships.
