Morrison Cohen’s Appellate Practice Team has broad experience in federal and state appellate litigation. The Honorable David B. Saxe (Ret.) is the newest member of our team and retiring after 19 years as an Associate Justice of the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division, First Department joins our firm. The lawyers in our appellate practice are recognized for the depth of their experience briefing and arguing appeals, as well as the consistent results they have achieved. In fact, at the end of 2016, Morrison Cohen secured three successful appellate outcomes in one week from the New York State Appellate Division, First Department, an unprecedented accomplishment for a New York law firm.
In his tenure on the appellate court, Justice Saxe addressed a wide range of complex appellate matters including: contract issues, corporate finance, insurance and re-insurance matters, business torts, products liability, intellectual property, real property, land-use and zoning, labor and employment, environmental law, constitutional law and civil rights, matrimonial and family law matters and probate Issues.
Because of the reputation we have earned as appellate counsel, we are often engaged solely to handle appeals, either to replace or supplement trial court-level counsel. We are also often engaged to perform a strategic review of appellate drafts. (See our Strategic Case Review Practice). We are also routinely retained as special appellate counsel by clients and colleagues at other firms. We have developed a true collaborative approach for these representations, and we welcome the opportunity to work in conjunction with our colleagues from other firms on such matters.
