Y. David Scharf Supports USTA Foundation Fundraising with the US Open’s Opening Night Reception
August 30, 2017 - Morrison Cohen Partner Y. David Scharf, who is the US Tennis Association Foundation’s Vice President of the Board of Directors, participated in the Foundation’s 17th Annual Opening Night Gala fundraiser for the US Open on August 28, 2017.
Hosted by Alec Baldwin and Martina Navratilova, the 2017 Gala featured more than 100 donors and celebrities and raised more than $1.1 million to continue its mission and support programming at more than 350 National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) community programs across the country. The Annual Opening Night Gala launches the US Open and is the major fundraiser for the USTA Foundation, the national charitable arm of the USTA.
The USTA Foundation supports programs nationwide that leverage tennis, education and life skills to prepare under-resourced youth for college and beyond. The Foundation benefits nearly a quarter of a million children every year through tennis, education, and health programs and college scholarships. The Foundation was named the 2017 ESPN League Humanitarian Leadership Award winner at the third annual Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards on July 12, 2017.
