Paul is a Partner in Morrison Cohen’s Employment, Compensation & Benefits Department. His practice focuses on a wide range of services related to 401(k) plans, pension plans, multiemployer plans, Employee Stock Ownership Plans (“ESOPs”), and ERISA issues. In addition, Paul’s experience covers executive compensation, executive employment arrangements, health and welfare plans, and HIPAA compliance.
Paul advises clients on the design, implementation, and ongoing compliance of retirement and pension plans. His services include drafting plan documents, trust agreements, and plan amendments, preparing IRS determination requests, providing advice on fiduciary, plan administration, funding and withdrawal liability issues, and correcting compliance failures through IRS and Department of Labor programs.
Paul’s executive compensation services include the design and drafting of equity-based compensation plans, supplemental executive retirement plans (“SERPs”), and other forms of deferred compensation. Paul also advises clients on Internal Revenue Code section 409A and golden parachute issues and regularly negotiates and drafts executive employment and separation agreements.
In the area of health and welfare plans, Paul advises clients on plan design and operation, COBRA issues, and cafeteria plan compliance. Paul also works with clients on the documentation of HIPAA privacy procedures and training.
Paul joined Morrison Cohen in 2006. Previously, Paul practiced at Thelen LLP and was an Assistant General Counsel at MetLife.
