David Saxe and Danielle Lesser Quoted in Article on Launch of Livestreaming at The Appellate Division, First Department

September 20, 2017 – Morrison Cohen Partners The Hon. David B. Saxe, (ret.) and Danielle C. Lesser, who advocated for livestreaming oral arguments at the First Department in an April 2017 article, were quoted in the September 15, 2017 issue of the New York Law Journal in an article announcing the launch of the service at the court.

"We believe that the First Department should promote transparency," they wrote, adding, "Adopting this approach would be a long overdue policy change that would enable the First Department to keep pace with the digital age as well as other important appellate courts."

Livestreaming oral arguments brings the First Department in line with the other three Appellate Division departments, the New York Court of Appeals, and other federal courts in the U.S.  Presiding Justice Rolando Acosta spearheaded the shift to livestreaming, making it a priority after being named the presiding justice of the First Department in May 2017.

Justice Saxe joined Morrison Cohen in March 2017 as a partner in the Business Litigation Department, after serving on the bench for 35 years, the last 19 as an Associate Justice, New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division, First Department.
