USTA Foundation Wins 2017 ESPN League Humanitarian Leadership Award

July 14, 2017 – The USTA Foundation, the national charitable organization of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), was named the 2017 ESPN League Humanitarian Leadership Award winner at the third annual Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards on July 12, 2017.

The League Humanitarian Leadership Award honors a professional sports league for driving social impact. The USTA Foundation will receive a $100,000 grant from ESPN allowing them to continue providing quality tennis and educational programming to more than 225,000 under-resourced youth.

Morrison Cohen Partner Y. David Scharf, who is the U.S. Tennis Association Foundation's Vice President of the Board of Directors, attended the ceremony to accept the award.  David was pictured in the July 14, 2017 issue of Real Estate Weekly with several athletes at the ceremony including ESPY awards presenter Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks; Houston Texans rookie Deshaun Watson, ESPY winner for Best Male College Athlete; Stephon Marbury, formerly of the New York Knicks; and National Football League record holder and former wide receiver Terrell Owens. David and the USTA Foundation are mentioned in the July 11, 2017 issue of Black Tie Magazine, where David is pictured with Deshaun Watson, ESPY winner for Best Male College Athlete. Also, David and the Foundation are mentioned in the August 01, 2017 issue of New York Real Estate Journal, where David is pictured with Deshaun Watson.

The mission of the USTA Foundation is to bring together tennis and education to change lives of youngsters. The Foundation utilizes financial grants, scholarship opportunities, curricula, technical assistance and training to make a lasting difference, with a primary focus of developing and ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network.

The Foundation raises money and public awareness to support these programs through private donations, corporate sponsorships and foundations, as well as its special fundraisers held throughout the year. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $25 million in grants and scholarships to more than 270 programs, helping thousands of children and adults throughout the country.
