Y. David Scharf Supports USTA Foundation Fundraising with the US Open’s Opening Night Reception

September 27, 2016 - Morrison Cohen Partner Y. David Scharf, who is the U.S. Tennis Association Foundation's Vice President of the Board of Directors, participated in the Foundation's Opening Night Gala fundraiser for the US Open on August 29, 2016.

For more than 15 years, the USTA Foundation's Opening Night Gala launches the US Open and provides major fundraising for the Foundation. The Opening Night Gala attracts leaders from the worlds of fashion, business, entertainment and finance, raising funds that support programs that bring tennis and education together to change lives.

The Opening Night Gala was featured on Vogue.com with David pictured with Bill Macatee, sports broadcaster for CBS Sports and Tennis Channel, and emcee of the Gala; tennis legend Martina Navratilova; Sean S. Mayo, Vice President of the USTA Foundation Board; and Cheryl Scharf, dinner committee member. Singer Jewel performed a dinner song tribute to children who are struggling that moved everyone to tears.

Additionally, the event was featured on Good Morning America and the US Open website.

The USTA Foundation supports programs nationwide that leverage tennis, education and life skills to prepare under-resourced youth for college and beyond. The Foundation benefits nearly a quarter of a million children every year through tennis, education, and health programs and college scholarships. The Foundation was nominated this past year for one of ESPNs prestigious Humanitarian Awards.
